Innovation and Technology Hubs
Spectrum continues to broaden the scope of medical device design and development. We are committed to expanding what’s possible in medical device manufacturing and drive the evolution of healthcare technology.
Innovation is a crucial factor for both OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and CDMOs (contract development and manufacturing organizations) to differentiate their capabilities in a highly competitive medical device industry. It can take many forms, such as developing new materials, incorporating technologies, or implementing more efficient manufacturing processes. Companies that prioritize innovation and invest in research and development are better positioned to create next-generation products that reduce healthcare costs, reach a wider global patient population, and enhance patient outcomes.
Spectrum’s Innovation and Technology Hubs (SITH) are designed to solve our customers’ toughest technical challenges and act as a center of excellence for our core technologies. SITH consists of two distinct hubs—the extrusion and additive manufacturing hubs. These two hubs operate independently but constantly collaborate on innovation, developing new ideas to better suit our customers’ end needs.
Extrusion Hub
The extrusion hub focuses on developing complex profiles and innovative extrusion processes to produce the components necessary to build next-generation devices, furthering the medical device industry. We serve the industry through timely supply and advanced processes to meet customers’ demanding tolerances. The hub offers a unique opportunity to partner directly with our extrusion experts to quickly iterate and trial the best fit for the planned application.
As part of this hub, we also offer Engineering Days that enable engineers to work on our Sandy, Utah extrusion floor alongside our extrusion team. Engineers appreciate getting results in days instead of weeks, accelerating their project development and helping them make informed decisions.
Additive Manufacturing Hub
Our additive manufacturing hub uses 3D printing to create high precision components from thermoplastic medical-grade materials. More customers are utilizing 3D printing to create complex designs and multi-material parts that cannot be produced using traditional manufacturing methods.
From brainstorming sessions during the early stages of development, to working hands-on alongside our teams, we offer a variety of services that give our customers a competitive advantage.
Launch Pad
At Spectrum, we created Launch Pad, a powerful tool to propel your medical device design project to new heights. Bring us your idea and we’ll generate concepts and recommendations to help make it a reality. The Spectrum team is ready with the best medical device engineers and technologies to guide your project from launchpad into orbit.
